There’s nothing like a brand new year for a fresh start! There’s something slightly intoxicating about the endless possibilities a brand new year provides. If you’re like us, you’re looking forward to a whole year of re-inspiring yourself with a simple refreshed or completely redecorated space. From curved furniture to multi-functional spaces, you’ll want to try out all of these decorating trends in your home in 2022.

1. One With Nature
Biophilic design is something ost of us have probably never heard of but simply stated it’s a principle that seeks to connect our inherent human desire and need to co-mingle with nature in the modern built environment with the fundamental goal of designing purposeful habitats for humans as biological organisms inhabiting modern structures, landscapes, and communities. Even more simply stated, there will be a large emphasis on creating interior spaces that are flooded with natural light, ventilation and plants to provide a more calming and serene environment for us. Think of it a bit like bringing the outside, inside!

2. Be Bold
We talked about this a bit last year but we are not surprised to see people leaning heavily on bold patterns, prints and designs. After two years of enduring the pandemic and all of it’s associated stresses and limitations, people want to be in a space that is a representation of them, that makes them feel inspired and ready to take on the world. Greens, such as Sherwin Williams Color of The Year Evergreen Fog, are going to be big this year as we continue to be inspired by nature. We’re also supporters of injecting an unexpectedly bold pop of color or pattern everywhere. Life is too short to not be bold!

3. Traditional Is King
Over the past few years there has been an increasing demand for comfort. Not only that, but many designers and home owners are taking a more sustainable approach to design and opting to utilize secondhand, antique and thrifted furniture and decor in their designs which inevitably lends itself to a cozier, traditional and timeless home full of the character and charm we loved so much in our grandparents homes. This new year we’re honoring our roots and being inspired by granny chic ruffles, floral patterns and oversized armoires.
4. Sustainability
Like we mentioned above, sustainable design is extremely popular and important right now. In fact, we think sustainable design will be trending each and every year in the future. Sustainable design might feel a bit intimidating or even worse, limiting, but there’s so many beloved vintage and antique items out there waiting for a new home, endless information about sustainable paints, fabrics and other materials and so many innovative companies designing and building eco-friendly items for a sustainable home that environmentally conscious interior design is limitless!

5. Your Home Is An Art Gallery
Add whimsy, intrigue, modernity and/or sophistication to your home with three-dimensional art. Think beyond just textured paintings though and think about sculptural wall pieces (and even statues themselves) to include in your home. Try incorporating them throughout your gallery wall or going up a staircase.
