In our last blog (click here to read) we discussed a few of the major design trends and colors we’ll be seeing a lot of in the new year and we thought we’d elaborate on that and discuss fabrics to incorporate in your home this year! Let’s jump right in!

Trending Colors
Ultimate Gray, Illuminating Yellow, and Urbane Bronze are the colors of the year from Pantone and Sherwin-Williams, setting the stage for accent colors like pastels, soft and rich blues and shades of pinks. Behr has grouped the trending colors into categories such as Casual Comfort (light, warm neutrals), Calm Zone (restorative blues and greens) and Optimistic View (bold and saturated). There’s a broad range of colors to create your home’s desired mood and style in any space. Lamps, throw pillows, blankets and other decorative accessories have always provided opportunities to be bold, expressive and daring with color, but in 2021 we’re seeing that sense of adventure pour itself into everything in our home in a vibrant parade of creative expression and a fearless honoring of our selves.
Fabric Trends

Comfort
The events of 2020 have most of us experiencing a longing for the nostalgic comforts of the homes we spent our childhoods in, surrounded by doilies, family photos in eclectic frames, floral everything and mix-matched patterns and fabrics from things collected and treasured throughout a lifetime. All of which is highly popular again thanks to the highly coveted cottagecore/grandmillennial/granny chic decor trends. Vintage textiles, embroidered fabrics, natural wovens, elaborate tapestries and knit or crocheted blankets are at the forefront of this embracing of the old, imperfect and nostalgic. An extension of the cottagecore trend is a return to a relaxed and cozy vibe. Sofas, sectionals and armchairs will see a shift into thicker, more inviting backs, cushions and arms and will be covered in fabrics like suede, wool and bouclè invite you to melt into the material.

Cultivate
Staying at home in 2020 allowed a lot of us to start planting the seeds for what we want out of life, our jobs, our businesses and our homes. In 2021 we’re nurturing those seeds and reaping the benefits of the fruit they will bear. Shades of greens and blues set the tone for this quiet cultivation, strengthening our determination, focus and calm. Green represents new beginnings, abundance, growth and ambition. Blue suggests calm, responsibility, integrity, trust and peace. Expect to see pattern play with blue and green fabrics with abstract, organic or neutral patterns.

Indulgence
Romantic and decadent palettes and patterns invite us to indulge in the luxurious nostalgia of glamorous moments of the past like Art Deco or 70s disco. Deep, rich oranges, purples, reds and browns in velvets, satins and chenilles satiate desires to be enveloped in sensual warmth.

Expression
Unapologetic, unfiltered, colorful self-expression allows us to thrive as our authentic, exuberant selves in 2021. Bold colors and prints like vivid florals, painterly textures and absolute maximalism of prints takes center stage. Statement fabrics create an air of whimsical grandeur while curated color palettes keep it from looking too chintzy.
