The sun is shining, birds are chirping, bees are buzzing and flowers are blooming – spring is truly in the air here in Texas! Celebrate the ending of winter and perfect 70 degree patio weather by giving your home a spring makeover! New colors, houseplants and accessories are just a few of the items you can add to help welcome spring into your home!

1) Decorate with Spring Flowers
Nothing says Spring more than fresh flowers and now is a great time to fill your home with vases full of flowers! Whether you buy them from a professional florist, a farmers market or simply cut some from the grass during your afternoon walk, flowers look fresh and beautiful in all arrangements, all vases and vessels and in every room of your home. The scent from fresh cut flowers can even help you feel happier and more relaxed!

2) Freshen Up Your Color Palette
Spring is a wonderful time to experiment with color, whether that be bold and vivid or soft and pastel. Some colors that are trending this year are yellow, light gray, blush, sky blue, sage and olive green, camel and coral. Pastels and whites are also a timeless classic for spring. You can pack a punch with color through accessories like throw pillows and blankets, swapping out artwork for the seasons, candles, flower arrangements, lamps or lamp shades, even coffee table books, just to name a few.
3) Incorporate Handmade Crafts and DIYs
There’s something about this weather that makes you want to get out the old craft box! It’s the perfect time to try your hand at making a wreath for Easter, some planter boxes for your summer herb garden, a spring centerpiece for your table, or bird feeders and bee watering stations. There’s so many amazing DIY ideas for spring and summer, there is truly no limit to what you can make with a little creativity and a hot glue gun!
4) Arrange Your Bookshelves By Color
One way to freshen up your home’s color palette and make it seem more organized than perhaps it actually is is to arrange your books on the shelves by color. Arranging books by color rather than author, title or subject is a great way to create a fresh take on a drab bookcase. It gives the eye somewhere to land, it looks pretty, it’s fun and trendy, and, despite what you might think, not hard to find the book you’re looking for when it’s not alphabetized.

5) Upcycle, Repurpose or Reclaim
Spring is all about breathing new life into the world, so why not breath some new life into an antique and make it something totally new! You can turn antique corbels into a floating shelf, turn your empty topo chico bottles into a propagation station to grow more plants, use gold leaf to make regular mason jars into gilded vases or make a broken lantern into a whimsical bird feeder. Again the ideas for things to upcycle, repurpose or reclaim are endless, and it’s the perfect weather for a day trip to Roundtop to look for your next project inspiration.
6) Repaint
Painting a room or even just an accent wall is one of the most cost efficient and effective ways to update and freshen your space. And when you get tired of the color you picked you can just paint over it! Spring is a time to feel inspired, happy, enveloped in warmth and hopeful for all the possibilities that await us. It might sound silly, but a fresh coat of paint can evoke those same feelings, so get out your paint swatches and paint rollers and get to painting!

7) Get the New England Vibe
If you’re subscribed to any home interiors magazine you’ve likely been seeing gorgeous spreads of New England homes bursting with charm and character and emulating that perfect, elevated yet relaxed spring vibe. We live in Texas, so we can’t quite capture the charm of New England, but we can give it our own southern spin. Classics like white and blue everything, painted wood paneling, subtle nautical nods and influences from Colonial and Shaker style architecture and decor. A design tip from the pious Shakers who settled in New England: “‘Tis the gift to be simple.”
8) Mix and Match
Spring can be a time to get funky, creative and experimental with your decor. Mix and match everything in your home to create a unique and eclectic vibe that’s reflective of all the things you love. Mix and match patterns and prints on throw pillows, use punches of citrus colored anything to liven up a space, get creative with your floral arrangements by combining succulents with more traditional varieties of flowers and layer texture on texture on texture.
9) Flood Your Home with Light and Air
Draw back the curtains, pull up the blinds and open up the windows to let the fresh spring air and sunshine flood your home. If you have heavy drapery covering your windows, consider changing it out for the season to something sheer and light like lace or voile. Natural lighting saves money and resources, increases your focus and reduces blood pressure, stress and anxiety, to name just a few of the benefits. Letting fresh air into your home lets humidity and harmful chemicals escape your home, flushes out odors and increases your oxygen intake. Seriously, open your windows on days when the weather is nice. It’s so good for you and your home.
10) Refinish a Piece of Furniture in A Fun Color
An easy DIY you can do in less than a weekend is to refinish a small piece of furniture in a fun paint color. Chairs, side tables, stools, or even a wooden crate or tray can all easily be transformed easily and inexpensively. Painting furniture is super beginner friendly, but if you’d rather leave it to the experts feel free to give us a call. We can repaint, restain or refinish anything from chairs to tables to dressers and deliver it to your door with new life!
